What Happens to Your Wedding Photos After the Day
Every question couples ask about their photos — answered honestly.
One of the most common questions I get from couples after they book isn’t about photography style or timeline. It’s simpler than that: “When do we get our photos — and how do we know they’re safe?”
It’s a fair question. Your wedding day happens once. There’s no reshoot, no second chance, no way to recreate what the light looked like at 6pm on that specific evening in that specific room. The responsibility of carrying those images home safely is something I think about on every single wedding I photograph.
Here’s exactly what happens to your photos from the moment I leave your wedding to the day your gallery lands in your inbox.
During Your Wedding — Two Cards, Every Frame
Before your wedding day even begins, your photos are already being protected. I shoot with cameras that have dual memory card slots, which means every single image is written to two separate cards simultaneously the moment I press the shutter.
If one card fails — which is rare but does happen — every image already exists on the second. You will never lose a photo because of a card failure. That redundancy starts at frame one and runs through the last dance.
The Night of Your Wedding — Immediate Backup
The same night I leave your wedding, before I do anything else, I back up every image from both cards to my editing system. This is not something that waits until morning.
Your RAW files are copied to a dedicated external RAID drive — a professional storage system that uses two drives simultaneously so that if one fails, the other holds everything intact. A second portable drive also receives a complete copy. At this point your images exist in four separate places before I’ve looked at a single one.
Backblaze, a continuous cloud backup service, runs in the background at all times. By the time I wake up the next morning, your photos are also in the cloud.
The Edit — What I’m Actually Doing
Editing wedding photos is not applying a filter. It’s going through every frame individually — which for a full wedding day typically means reviewing 2,000 to 3,000 images to deliver your final gallery.
My editing process has two stages.
The first is culling — selecting the frames that tell your story fully and honestly. I’m looking for sharp focus, genuine expression, meaningful composition, and emotional weight. Duplicates, test shots, and frames where the moment didn’t land are removed. What remains is the truest version of your day.
The second is color grading — bringing each image to the warm, film-inspired tones that define my style. Skin tones are balanced, contrast is refined, and the images are treated consistently so your gallery reads as a cohesive body of work rather than a random collection of moments.
I do not use batch presets that apply one look to every image regardless of the light. Every photo is touched individually.
How Many Photos Will You Receive?
For a full wedding day — typically 8 to 10 hours of coverage — most couples receive between 500 and 800 final edited images. This varies depending on the length of the day, the number of guests, and how the day unfolds.
What I promise is that you’ll receive every moment that matters. The getting ready suite, the ceremony, the details, the reception. The quiet moments and the loud ones. Nothing important gets left out.
When Will Your Gallery Be Ready?
Your final gallery is delivered within 6 to 8 weeks of your wedding date. For most San Antonio weddings this means your photos arrive while the memories are still fresh and the thank-you cards are still being written.

Your Gallery — How It Works
Your photos are delivered through a private online gallery built specifically for you. From your gallery you can view every image in full resolution, download individual photos or the entire collection, share a private link with family and friends, and order professional prints directly.
The gallery link doesn’t expire. Your photos remain accessible online for as long as you need them.
Long-Term Storage — Your Photos Don’t Disappear
After delivery I retain your full archive for a minimum of 1 years. If you ever need a redownload or lose a file, I have them.
My strong recommendation — and I tell every couple this — is to download your full gallery to a personal hard drive and back it up to a second location the week you receive it. Cloud services change their terms, external drives eventually fail, and the one copy you never want to rely on alone is the one you can’t replace. Download them, back them up, and then enjoy them without worry.
Why This Matters When You’re Choosing a Photographer
Not every wedding photographer has a multi-tiered backup system. Some shoot to a single card. Some wait days before backing up. Some deliver through platforms that delete your gallery after a year.
